Summary of Responsibilities – Wright Accounting & Consulting, L.L.C. (WAC) is seeking a staff accountant to assist the company’s owner, Dillon Wright, with a variety of accounting and tax engagements.  This employee will be responsible for assisting with bookkeeping, payroll tax processing, maintaining client fixed asset/depreciation schedules, and financial statement compilations.  The staff accountant will also be responsible for a variety of diverse income tax preparation tasks which include organizing and coordinating client tax data, work paper documentation, and data entry into the firm’s tax software.

Essential Functions

  •  Performing financial statement compilation procedures including review of client prepared reports, general ledger detail review, and proposal of adjusting journal entries,
  • Work paper documentation to support financial statement estimates and adjustments,
  • Assistance in proofing financial statements and report formatting in accordance with the firm’s quality control standards,
  • Perform bookkeeping procedures for Quickbooks clients that include preparing customer invoices, posting customer payments and bank deposits, recording vendor bills and issuing check payments for vendor bills, payroll processing, payroll tax deposits, and bank reconciliations,
  • Preparation of quarterly payroll tax returns and annual information returns (i.e., Forms W-2 and 1099-MISC),
  • Performing inquiries of client personnel in connection with financial statement compilations, tax return preparation, and various other engagements,
  • Developing relationships with clients and their employees
  • Learning to utilize Quickbooks and specialized tax software applications
  • Preparing financial statements from the client’s trial balance using Microsoft Office applications
  • Working towards being able to prepare income tax returns and projections
  • Analyzing IRS (and other tax authorities) notices and drafting responses
  • Becoming acclimated with the firm’s depreciation software application for the purpose of setting up depreciation schedules for new clients and maintaining fixed asset/depreciation schedules of existing clients
  • Working towards being able to prepare client-provided trial balances for tax preparation by making required adjusting journal entries

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in accounting or other related program
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Proficiency in use of computers, specifically Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, & PowerPoint)
  • Interest in learning new skills and willingness to be teachable/trainable
  • Commitment to following through on goals (both individual and team-oriented) established by the WAC team
  • Client focused and able to juggle multiple engagements
